Profile

Josh Elvander is a highly experienced aeromechanical engineer with a diverse career in aerospace and robotics spanning more than 25 years and multiple advanced technology roles. Currently, he is the Senior Vice President of Engineering at MagLev Aero Inc., a pioneering aerospace technology company headquartered in Boston.

As a seasoned engineer, Elvander has demonstrated hardcore technology design and development, test and evaluation, and systems engineering skills across a wide range of markets including general aviation, eVTOL and urban/regional air mobility, mobile robotics, commercial and consumer electronics, academia, commercial oil and gas, as well as NASA/DARPA/USAF/USN.

Elvander started his accomplished career in aerospace engineering developing liquid rocket engines and airbreathing propulsion systems. He spent several years working on robotic systems, including airborne UAVs, subsea robots such as AUVs and ROVs and a ground robot for commercial applications. He also worked as a PMP-certified program manager, leading both functional and multidisciplinary teams.

Before joining MagLev Aero, Elvander served as the VP of Engineering at Terrafugia, where he led the successful effort to obtain FAA Light Sport Aircraft certification for the Transition® roadable aircraft. Other career highlights include several years at General Dynamics-Bluefin Robotics, where, among other accomplishments, he led the development of an autonomous underwater vehicle used in subsea searches for Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Electra and Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. He holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the University of Washington.
